Fall Academy, 2000

Austin Theatre for Youth proudly presents its award-winning theatre arts Academy for young people. The Fall, 2000 Academy program consists of two 6-week sessions:

Session One
September 11 - October 25 (no classes Oct. 9 and 11)

Session Two
October 30 - December 13 (no classes Nov. 20 and 22)

The last day of each ATY class session is set aside as an opportunity for students to share some of what they have learned in class. Families and fiends are invited to attend!

Little Academy (Ages 5-7)

Schedule of Classes: September 11 - October 25, 2000

  1. Create a Costume, Become the Character
    Create costumes from scratch, then use the costumes to make your characters come alive!

    Sept. 11-Oct. 25, 6 weeks

  2. Favorite Stories: From Page to Stage
    Create plays using improvisation, role-play, and your imagination.

  1. The Theatrical Time Machine
    Travel to the farthest reaches of your imagination. Go anywhere - and into any time. Each class will have a different destination!

  2. Let's Act it Out!
    Work as an ensemble to develop a short play based on fairy tales, folklore or mythology.

  3. Constellation Tales
    Learn the stories behind the constellations, Orion (The Hunter), Gemini (The Twins), and more. Use them as the basis for dramatic activities.

    Learn how to create dynamic theatre out of classic stories using storytelling, puppetry and performance techniques.

    Discover the playwright within you as you explore how a writer has his/her characters communicate through action, movement and speech.

    Learn audition techniques, work on monologues, find resources - that will help you get parts in play and movies.
