Dedicated ISDN

A full time dedicated ISDN connection is OnRamp Access' most popular service for full time, high-reliability service. This very affordable service is available in 64kbit/sec and 128kbits/sec bandwidths. As compared to dial-up access, 64kbit/sec generally delivers over 3 times the data transfer rate. While our Dial-Up connections are limited to a single users, dedicated connections can be shared by as many people as you like. Companies with small networks often use ISDN lines to provide access to all of their computers without buying separate telephone lines or modems.

This is one reason why many small and medium sized companies have standardized on a dedicated ISDN connection for Internet access. Another is relative affordability since an ISDN line is the least costly of dedicated connections. Finally, ease of installation and administration make the ISDN solution an ideal choice for many.

Generally, all that is required to connect an internal LAN to the Internet is a router and an ISDN phone line. However, often a firewall or firewall software is added for security. Your OnRamp Access account representative can help you decide exactly the equipment and software needed to connect your network safely to the Internet.

Once the ISDN line is in place, anyone on the network, with proper access, can use the Internet for worldwide email, web research, web education and much, much more.

A dedicated ISDN connection can even be used for securely exchanging information, data and files with remote offices. Often, this is done via the creation of a "Virtual Private Network" (VPN). A VPN uses the Internet to expand the corporate or group LAN to remote sites using secure data exchange tools. Alternatively, secure exchange of data can be accomplished with easy-to-use automatic and manual transfer routines. In either case, companies are finding that an ISDN connection through the Internet provides better performance, reliability and security at a much lower cost that leased line connections.
